Stepping back to the Twenties...

Saturday, 9 July 2011

Castle Drogo, a National Trust property in Devon is hosting a 1920's event this weekend.
Its across the valley from home as the crow flies, so I cant miss it!!!
Fabric rummaging and pattern snaffling have taken place in earnest this morning, and the fruits of my endevours (up in the attic) are shown above.
I have 4 yards of the mottled brown viscose and various other brown scraps lined up to play with.
The pattern will be fine for adapting. Not strictly speaking correct for the period, but shapeless drop waists will do nothing for my figure and if I'm going to invest a morning of my time making a dress I would like to wear it again afterwards!!
I shall also be making Littlest a dress this afternoon. She meanwhile is making a feathered headdress. How exciting!!!

Full pictures and possibly a few 'whilst making' ones will follow on another post!

Have a good weekend to you all...

  1. I can't wait to see the finished articles, I love the 20's, although unlike you I do love drop waists, they suit my figure :) Have a super time

  2. Lucky you Sue! A drop waisted dress would be so much quicker to make at the moment!

  3. I envy your ability to say "I'm making a dress today" and then to have the skills necessary to do just that. Can't wait to see the final product!

  4. Yaay I love your sewing posts, as well as the crochet and shoe making, haha!!!
    Have a lovely weekend :D

  5. wow. I've had that very same pattern for a few years now and have not had the umph to get it made. Can't wait to see your finished dress!
